Integrated Support Services is the largest back-office support unit for Global Banking & Markets, Group Treasury and International Banking. ISS is the primary centralized control point for the processing, confirmation, accounting, payment and reporting of securities transactions, including fixed income, equities, bond and equity based options, leveraged buy-outs, money market instruments and securities lending activities. Processing take place within a highly automated, technology-oriented work environment.
PURPOSE:
The Float Officer will provide relief to all departmental positions up to and including the Investigations Specialist. Using a highly developed analytical aptitude, a high attention to detail, extreme flexibility resulting in the ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment the Float is responsible for providing complete coverage for all internal positions as required. As such, the Float is responsible for taking the initiative to learn and grasp a complete understanding of the department work flow, thus plays a critical role in minimizing exposure to risk for all parties involved when providing coverage. As a result of the Float absorbing knowledge and understanding the complexity of each individual desk in the department, the Float plays key role in enhancing departmental capacity, growth, and development through process improvement initiatives.
COMPLEXITY OF POSITION:
Global Wholesale Operations (GWO) is a division of Global Banking and Markets. It provides back office support to the Bank's Global Trading, Group Treasury, and Corporate Banking, and centralised cross border Money Transfer activities. The Investigations department is responsible for providing a high level customer service to all Scotiabank Clients. Activities take place within a high sophisticated and automated environment. Both business volumes and dollar value are high. As a result, the tolerance levels for errors are small, as they can expose the Bank to significant operational/settlement risks and potential monetary losses.
The Float Officer must have a good working knowledge of both the domestic and international payment systems, our back office applications supporting the various payment/settlement processes (SWIFT, BESS (Bank Electronic Support System), CORONA, (Nostro Reconciliation) PEGA (Investigations), Oracle,(Bank G/L System) Interlink, ACSS/US Bulk Exchange, FFT(Forms Free Teller), and Wall Street(Foreign Exchange and Money Market), GO888 reconciliation systems and a working knowledge of the businesses in which we support. The incumbent must be results focused individual. Sound judgment and a high level of analytical aptitude is required to investigate and resolve outstanding transactions and customer queries (internal departments such as Branches, Foreign Exchange, Money Market, Payments, Derivatives and external such as Correspondent Banks, Toronto Data Centre, Corporate Clients). Well-developed reasoning skills and discretion must be exercised to reduce risk associated with high profile cases. The environment calls for a well-rounded Analyst who not only possesses the required technical expertise, but also the interpersonal and communication skills to effectively motivate required actions. Understands the group dynamic in regards to identifying team mates strengths and weaknesses to clarify roles, tasks, and priorities in order to achieve team effectiveness. Expectation is the Float has a keen sense of identifying opportunities for process improvements given the unique perspective of all positions within the department.
**Post-Secondary Level of Education preferred but not required
Minimum 2 year's experience/exposure to Bank's back office operations environment.
Proficient in Computer Skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, as well as internal systems**
SKILLS:
The Float Officer will provide relief to all departmental positions up to and including the Investigations Specialist. Using a highly developed analytical aptitude and a high attention to detail the Float is responsible for providing complete coverage for all internal positions as required.
The Float is responsible for taking the initiative to ensure complete knowledge and understanding of the entire departments work flow strengthening their role as a trusted advisor and working cooperatively across the department/business lines to cultivate long-term business relationships. This will be accomplished with highly developed analytical skills, the ability to retain, understand and interpret complex information/data, ability to make sound decision on spot with minimal guidance using highly developed reasoning skills, and applying highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
Having a unique broad perspective of each position through formal training and a complete understanding of the entire departments work flow the Float is responsible to foster a creative approach to problem solving, possessing the drive to act upon these problems and has the initiative to continually focus on process improvements resulting in a better client experience.
Responsible for negotiating compensation claims on behalf of the Bank keeping our interests as the highest priority, thus requiring a strong understanding of negotiation tactics. Having the ability to tactfully challenge the points expressed by other Institutions resulting in the ability to strategically influence and persuade the opposition. Moreover, this is accomplished by using solid research methods, interpreting available complex data, uncovering data, and drawing on experience dealing with other Countries in order to make informed negotiation decisions about alternative courses of action.
