JOB DESCRIPTION:
-Requiring individuals to manage learning resources while keeping the library users' needs in mind.
-Selecting, developing, cataloguing and classifying library resources
-Answering readers' inquiries
-Using library systems and specialist computer applications
-Management of staff, including recruitment, training and/or supervisory duties
-Liaising with departmental academic staff, external organisations and suppliers
-Ensuring that library services meet the needs of particular groups of users (eg staff, postgraduate students, disabled students)
-Managing budgets and resources
-Supporting independent research and learning
Developing IT facilities
assisting readers to use computer equipment, conduct literature searches etc
Promoting the library's resources to users
Looking after and updating electronic resources
Managing staff
Helping the public
Keeping the library organised and tidy (not everyone will put the book back where they found it)
Maintaining library catalogues and making them easy to use
Organizing events and activities (such a children’s book readings)
Chasing and collecting books back and enforcing fines
Ordering and displaying new stock
Maintaining a quiet environment
QUALIFICATION:
You are eligible to become an academic librarian with any degree,
Postgraduate qualification with the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP).
SKILLS:
Excellent communication skills
Good listener
Personally well presented
Credible and confident
Valid driving licence
